Why Avoid SLS / SLES?

Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) are foaming agents common in shampoos, body washes, and toothpastes. SLS can irritate skin and mucous membranes. SLES may be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, a probable carcinogen, during its manufacturing process.
