Why Avoid Artificial Dyes?
Synthetic food and product dyes are petroleum-derived colorants used in foods, beverages, personal care products, and textiles. Several FD&C dyes (Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6) have been linked in research to hyperactivity and behavioral changes in children — the EU requires a warning label on foods containing these dyes, while the US does not. Some synthetic dyes contain benzidine, a known human carcinogen, as a contaminant from the manufacturing process.
